A cabbage shortage is now plaguing fast food outlets after they were forced to overhaul their menus due to the skyrocketing price of lettuce.
Major fast-food outlets KFC, Oporto, and Subway resorted to substituting lettuce for a leafy cabbage blend after prices reached $11.99 per head this week amid nationwide shortages.
But now the cost of cabbage is on the rise, with wholesale prices fetching up to $9 a head at Sydney Markets.
Restaurants usually buy Cabbage at wholesale prices of $4.50 per head, meaning costs have doubled in recent weeks.
